This is an attempt at child-directed propaganda that valorizes Donald Trump, Devin Nunes, and Kash Patel.

There is no technical proficiency worth admiring. (I don't really watch movies, period, let alone propaganda from the 1930s.)īut the fact that that conversation happens suggests that Riefenstahl had technical skill worth studying. Now I don't know that that is the way Riefenstahl's films should be handled. Her films were Nazi Party propaganda, yet they demonstrated a level of technical expertise such that many film critics and historians are able to separate her films' significance from the fact that they are Nazi propaganda. This is political propaganda dressed up as a children's book.ĭocumentary filmmaker Leni Riefenstahl is regarded as one of the finest filmmakers of her generation. But I have a rant rolling around in my brain.)īut this isn't something that "reasonable people" can disagree over. I haven't really worked out all the details in that rant, and I will choose to spare you all in relating it. (I have a rant about this related to Shirley Chisholm, who has been the subject of at least four very triumphal, very cursory picture book biographies in the last few years. Politicians are human beings, and even the finest of them have dark moments and mistakes in their past, and that level of nuance can be hard to convey in picture book form. I have a bit of a hard time reading biographies of politicians that, to my mind, valorize them beyond the realm of reasonable justification. Now, I need it understood that I believe reasonable people can disagree when it comes to politics. (I don't give my money to trolls like Patel I also don't buy books from Amazon.) I intend to return it as soon as I can, as a matter of principle. On principle, I was pleased, but as a matter of getting the book in my hands, I was a little frustrated. I use three systems regularly (go Ohio libraries!) and none of the three had a copy of the book. I first attempted to get the book from my local library system. Last week, Mehdi Hasan, on his MSNBC on Peacock show, briefly addressed the fact that Kash Patel had written a children's book, The Plot Against the King. Okay, I bought and read this book so you don't have to. I have a hard time believing this is real.Īmazon wouldn't let me post the bulk of this review because it was "inappropriate." LMAO. 2 June 2022 Amazon wouldn't let me post the bulk of this review because it was "inappropriate." LMAO. I have a hard time believing this is real.
